PFO Lighting

Ifferfish

Obsessed
Anyone know anything about the new Solaris series that they are advertising? They say they can take the place of MH lights... not sure, but things change all the time. :)

Not as good as halides. Great for softies or LPS, but get to rediculous prices. I would wait at least a while for price drops and higher quality equiptment.

I have the 250W equivalents (I series I think?) and I was initially worried about my SPS (I have Acros, Montis, and some others) growing with them. They grow as well as the halides that I had and have better coloration. The new series is supposed to be equiv to 400W halides so I would imagine they would be better. I can say for sure that they work very well for SPS. The price is up there though. That I cannot deny but I have seen the difference in my power bill and am looking forward to not having to replace the halides bulbs next year.

Something I have heard people talk about with these (I have not personally researched any of this), is that LED's have a life span just as halides do. I would try and ascertain what that life span is roughly as well as the cost of replacing an LED array and include those numbers in any kind of maintenance cost analysis. Also, last I had heard, these things just didn't produce the kind of PAR you can achieve with MH.

Again, these are not things I have looked into myself, just second hand musings. But, these are the first things I would look into were I interested in these LED fixtures... FWIW

Just throwing it out there, I am in the middle of a new tank being built and now I want to re-think lighting. I am most likely going to stay with my 400w MH's, but it has been several years and I thought I should see what else is out there....thanks for the input :)
