Play Sand Question

APISTOBORELLI

Bass in pic swam away
I found Kolorscape play sand at HD today. It's in a clear and blue bag. On the bag it clearly says not for aquariums. Is this safe to use anyway? I hope so because I bought all of it.

do the vinagar test. put some in a cup and pour vinagar in it if t fizzles it is ok

I think iv had some in my 20 gallon for the past 3 weeks, no problems so far, about 3 inches deep. the tank is filled with LR, a damsel, brittle star, and pencil urchins...

If it fizzles it is ok. I'll try that Thanks.

I'm going to get a pic of the bag tonight when I get home from work.

i think i have some extra in a bag laying around, ill go try the test now.

I thought it was koloroscope, but its not, its pool filter sand...

what does the fizzling of the viniger signify?

I tested a bag of sand that I used in the 20 gallon, I poured some vinagar on it, and it did not fizzle, its already in my tank, is that a bad thing?

Usually if it says "Not for aquariums" then it is good for us. They are speaking of fresh water aquariums. Aragonite based sand will cause pH issues in fresh water tanks.

the other thing to keep in mind is if you are planning on keeping sand burrowing fish that the sand is not too jagged

I have had mine in for about 3 month w/out any problems. Rinse it real good and you will be fine.

This is the sand I bought.
