Hey everyone, classic problem that I'm really having trouble fixing this time. I cut down the lights, cut down feedings and amount of food, used Chemiclean and still I have red cyano coming back. I've dealt with more than a couple Cyano outbreaks in my time, but never one I couldn't shed.
I'm currently using this water from Petco that seemed for a couple months to be great, but am wondering if now this is the issue: https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/imagitarium-pacific-ocean-water
I have a 32 gallon bio cube and have always used store bought water, even though I know it's expensive, because its easy/convenient. I've also been topping off the freshwater needed for evaporation with distilled water, something I have done for 15 years. Not sure if that could be the problem, but it has never hurt my tank before.
I've been using coral life nano reef part A and part B nutrients which have made my corals very happy indeed, but I'm also reading that maybe I have too many nutrients in the tank. I use them daily which maybe could be the problem maybe as well - I've just been following the instructions to a T on the bottle.
Only other thing I can think of is that my BioCube is coming up on 3 years old. I have the stock hood/lights on here and haven't ever been able to find anything about how long these lights last. None are burnt out or anything, but wondering what the life span is, as I've been planning to maybe look into an after market upgrade anyways.
Thoughts? Looking to make sure that if I make do finally go to an RO unit, it's the right move i guess.
