Reeflo Orca 200

Ok, I did it.... the Orca 200 is on it's way.

So, as I prepare for it's arrival I have a question:

When I plumb the output, should I put a vent right after the output tee where the wedge is? or will the Wedge handle this? I definitely will vent it as it actually enters sump (6 feet away). I'm just not sure if the vent in question could break the siphon and slow the flow... or maybe that's what I want to happen so it doesn't drain and surge.

You see I'm used to my ETSS 800 with gate valve.... had to use like five vents with very little success.

No need for the vent hole. The "wedge" riser has an open top and there is also a vent hole on the Silencer/Air filter should you choose to use it. It's a sick skimmer you'll love it.

The one thing that I would strongly recommend is to run it with a Kill-A-Watt meter attached at all time. This really helps with monitoring performance and you will see your wattage increase. Over time the venturi hole will develop hard calcium and salt deposits which causes you wattage to increase. Normally 98 watts for me, I clean it when it hits 100. This skimmer really pulls a lot of air. I'm thinking about getting the extension riser once I get my new 180 online.

I know it. Such a good deal. And, I'm hoping they've worked out all the kinks - Needle Wheel, Reeflo gold pump, ventilated cap. etc...

Almost bought the 250 but Jeremy from Premium Aquatics said the 200 pulls just about the same skimmate. Plus I can always upgrade to the taller cup and better Needle Wheel, if needed.

Is it necessary to keep the long horizontal part of the output? I was hoping to put the elbow right at the wedge tee.

I love my 250- reef specialty package. I have used a LOT of skimmers over the years, and not many produce as good of skimmate as this bad boy. To be honest I think this preforms better than the $7000 Deltec AP1006 I ran.

It uses an O ring. There are no screw or turning to get the unit off. I accidently broke the collection cup because of that. I decided to move the entire unit and the O ring was not in place. The collection cup hit my shoulder and failed the gravity test.

Good to hear - SaltwaterB. I hope you're right. I'm just waiting on the pump... ETA of Thursday.

Entire plumbing project is set and ready to go though. I'm skipping the vinegar bath. I'll through some carbon in there to help soak up the oil film from the factory. Probably doesn't help, but it makes me feel like I'm doing something!

I've built and rebuilt this tank at least five times. Hopefully this is it for a while.

It's an O ring that you insert in a groove on the inside wall of the top of the skimmer. I put some food grade silicone grease on there to help it stay... and for ease of use.
