Serpent stars: how long?

Moe_K

Stabbed by Foulke
I'll post a video of my serpent star below. I've had it for over a year now.
How long do they live? How long have you had yours?

I find it frustrating to try and feed the serpent star only to see the damned damsel steal the food 5 minutes later. Grrr.

That's a pretty awesome star. No idea on your other questions, but feed him at night with lights off or cover him with a collinder.

...stupid auto correct

I had one for at least 6 years until he out grew my tank he is in my buddy's tank still alive 8 years later I'll try n get a pic this week

I have never seen an ophiouroidea red like that one. FANTASTIC.

I will place the food (pellet) together the body nearby an arm. And at the same with a stick I will keep the fish out to give time to her to move the food to her mouth.

Have you tried after the lights are off and fish gone ?

BTW...going to your question I had one black for 4 years and it was huge !!!! . I gave it to a guy when I moved .

I had a red one very similar for probably close to ten years. Only occasionally made an effort to feed it, usually when it was especially active after a tank feeding (e.g. it would literally climb up the side of the tank glass), maybe only every other month or so. I too would recommend evening feeding if you're having difficulties. Perhaps a larger piece of food than a pellet? I would usually use a small piece of raw shellfish or fish … it would generally wrap the piece in its arm and retreat to under the rock work making it difficult for even the wrasses to take the food from it.
