Solaris LED anyone

We are weighing our lighting options. Now that PFO has come out with 400W equivalent LEDs they have made the list for consideration. Does anyone in the area have the existing Solaris LED fixture that wouldn't mind showing it? Interested to see and hear it. Or alternatively is there any store in the area that has one on display? Need to make a decision soon.

Thank you,
David

Might want to PM Carlo Miceli, I think he's using one.

Carlo,

Thanks for the offer. You have no idea how far we have driven for the aquarium. We would love to come see it. My wife is out of town all week and busy Sunday. BRS meeting Saturday. before or after the meeting perhaps? Or when would be a good time for you?

Thank you,
David

Save your money and wait at this point.

At the $3k+ they cost, you'll never make your money back. There are some new LEDs that should make it into fixtures that are 3 or 4 times more efficient than the current Luxeon 2s that PFO is using. Give it a couple of years.

As to "equivalency". The 250w "equivalent" fixture has 43ppfd from what I've read and calculated, as compared to the 60ish of an xm20K, and the 85 of a phoenix 14k, or 100+ of a 10K bulb.

What Rich said. While I have also driven a long way for my tanks...NH to buy one, southern CT for Southdown, RI for my stock tank, and ALL over MA....I hope you're not being driven to buy a technology that is still evolving, and also not being affected by market pricing for competition with other light types. it's very expensive lighting per lumen.......even if it is cutting edge. I'd hate to see someone $pend all that dough and find out that it's going the way of PC lighting

This topic has been beaten to death over RC already.... Any questions have been pretty much answered there. The lights have definitely stirred up a love hate relationship with people...

I would think that SanJay may have some info on this subject. It would be an interesting question to pose to him.

Brian, I dont think Sanjay has done any work yet, but Dana Riddle did some, and his numbers basically said the "250 equivalent" had about 75-80% of the PAR of a 250w XM 20K
