The digging has begun - Go Marvin Go

That is correct! 36'x48'

That`s a house not a garage.Your stang will love it lol

Randy,

>Hey Greg, when is the tank supposed to show up? I'm interested in your quality assessment<

I haven't asked the builder in a while about when it will be ready because it took so long to get the building permit and get started that we are way behind. The tank builder has a provision in his contract that if you make them hold it for any length of time they will start charging you money for it. I know that for sure I will have to store it in my garage for at least several weeks, but I'm hoping to minimize the time I have to store it by not pestering the manu. for a delivery date!

The building inspector is happy with our hole. Concrete next week.

Can't wait! I get to get muddy on Monday. :)

How big is the room going to be? 10' x 10' or so?
Hard to tell

It is 12 X 12 with a full basement under. We are installing a geothermal loop for cooling of the tank.

The room has a skylight and two bay windows with a slider to the outside.

Pictures deceiving...doesn't look like a 5' deep hole.
So you are cutting a doorway into the existing basement?
Sounds like it will have plenty of natural sunlight
My sister had an addition put on the back of the house.
They made (2) mistakes IMO, they didn't go down deep enough for a reg basement, and didn't cut a door into the existing basement for access.
The existing basement had a rock floor, not cement- not a full basement either

Is the loop going into the ground, or buried in cement floor? I know Greg posted about it before....

Yeah we are cutting into the existing basement. The loop is going outside of the the structure with the piping going through the foundation wall into the sump room.

We are going to use Pex tubing for the Geothermal loop.

awesome.

I doubt picks and shovels were involved, mayve a few sammies though.

Ed if i was caught drinking sammies and operating a pick and shovel I would lose my Pick and Shovel license. :)

License??!! You need a license for to do this stuff??!!
Next thing you'll tell me I need a building permit :D
I'd really like to swing up & see the project. My front door replacement & new window are going better then expected. Existing 2x6 header & jacking/king studs, so all I need to do is pop the new door & window in & put the sheathing back up.
And re-run the electric & I'm done (sorta).

Scuba Dave,

You are welcome to come by and have a look, but I don't think there is really much to see yet!

One nice thing about the existing basement, the concrete wall does not extend to the edge of the house, therefore, when we punch out the wall in the existing basement to attach to the new basement, we will only be taking out a bit of wood, etc.

A few pics of the progress. There hasn't been much to show for a while, but the foundation is now complete and 'signed off', cooling loop installed. My wife even tells me there is some wood on the structure (too dark for me to see when I got home). :D

Slab goes down tomorrow. Double wire mesh with 4000 lb concrete.

Framing in earnest on Friday.

Oh yeah the geothermal loop is 3/4 x 300 ft and buried 5 feet below frost line and encased in sand. Should do the job. :)

Faster Marvin Faster, get that puppy closed in for Greg the cold is coming and we dont want to pop that slab. ;)
