I purchased a Tamarin YellowTail Wrasse a few days ago. I acclimated and added the fish to the tank. Quickly the just over an inch Yellowtail wrasse darted into the sand bed. This is the worst when you want to see your newly acquired fish. I was waiting for it to come out of the sand for the last three days. Honestly I thought it was gone. I was ready to put my name back on that waitlist to get another. I read online some reefers have had experiences with wrasses hiding for three weeks. That’s crazy. lol. Anyways I was walking past the tank this afternoon and saw him swimming around and actively hunting and eating pods. I was excited, you know that feeling if you reef. So what was the longest time you waited on a wrasse to rise from the sand bed? Here’s some pics

When I first got my ornate leopard wrasse, it swam around the tank just fine, no problems. Saw it throughout the day. Next day, no sight of it. Didn’t see it again until probably close to 3 weeks later when it came out at feeding time. Active tank member ever since. I had to catch him for 2 different tank moves and both times it was a challenge. Impressive have fast and evasive they are just disappearing in the sand bed.

You have a better luck @Mixed Reefer, bought a melanurus wrasse last weekend, did the same thing, immediatley buried himself, but then got out and about the next day and eating. Did that for a couple of days. Then he didnt show up for 2 days, but i saw him moving while buried. Then yesterday my wife saw him dead already, not exactly sure why though.

Sorry to hear about your loss . I’ve had that happen. Who knows why, probably bacterial. On another note I purchased a Cori’s wrasse also yesterday. That one hid for 24 hours. It’s just starting to explore the tank. Hopefully you’ll have better luck next time.
