Tunze or Ocean Motion?

OK I am setting up my custom 24x24x30 cube.
I had planned to use the Tunze 6000 stream w/single controller.

I saw the Ocean Motion at Rebeccas house. I really liked the way it worked and she swears by it.

I hate equipment in the tank.
If I did the OM I would drill the bottom and install the 4 way OM under the tank as closed loop/water change system. (Rebeccas design, SWEET)

I am going to do a total SPS tank.

Anybody else have any thoughts on this?

Paul from OM is going to be releasing a smaller 4 way in the next few week. Here is a snippet from his forum:

...a new small 4 way available in the next few weeks, It will be magnetically driven and have no seals, am not sure of its max capacity but it will handle 1300 with ease , it is designed with 3/4 inlets and outlets with a drum similar to a version 2 on the larger 4 way.

I will definitely go with the larger version. I am looking for flow. LOTS of flow.

My concerns are;
With the Tunze. would I get dead spots? I like the flow of a Tunze. I sold a lot of them and am very partial to them.

With Ocean Motion will the flow be good since it is coming out of a standard pipe? I like the alternating flow and no dead spots.

After looking around and talking to Paul I decided on 2 X 4 way Oceans Motions for the new 360. I'll have mine plus the rest of the product line here next week

What's the cost of an OM system?
Specifically, I'm planning a 125 SPS tank and want good flow.
Obviously, I want the most bang for the buck.
What would a OM dealie cost me?

Hey guys -

The price of the OM is for the unit itself, but/and you also need a decent pump to move flow through the OM. So plan on spending whatever price Marc can negotiate plus a pump that will suit your particular flow needs... plus a nominal few bucks for plumbing parts.

I have the 4-way OM, using a Mag 18 about 2 feet below the tank...on a 6ft. tank. The flow is awesome... just perfect. I wouldn't recommend anything less (or more) for a 6ft. long tank with lots of SPS (Moe)... and a DSB. If there's no DSB, you could go for a bigger pump without the worry of a sand storm every day. My setup caused some kick-up on the first few days... but has settled well now. For a cube like Marvin's... and drilling from the bottom rather than plumbing the return lines over the top (as I did), something with the power of an 18 would also probably do well because the water needs to travel the full height of the tank, and all around the rocks. 30 inches is a lot of height... so the flow will need to be there to get movement from the floor of the tank up to the water's surface.

Also... if you chose an OM with one of the inserts that releases water through more than one of the 4 or 8 outlets at a time, you'll need a more powerful pump (since the power of the flow is dispersed over several outlets, rather than just coming through one).

Just some things to consider... FYI.

Hey jango -

It's really hard to capture the whole works in a photo. I could show off my very fanciful plumbing, but what's even more impressive (and important) is seeing how the water affects the corals and bounces around the tank. It would be much easier to show and tell in person... so consider yourselves invited. Marvin and Marc have already seen the set up... so they know I'm very happy with the results of replumbing my entire tank... and am biased in one direction!

I do think that for very large tanks a tunze 'might' be better than an OM on the order of continous, uni-directional, powerful flow... if that's what you're looking for. But then again, the beauty of the OM is that - unlike a SCWD (which I also owned and would only recommend for an SPS tank of 3ft and under)- you can load that thing up with as powerful a pump as you like and just let the water fly all over, from outlet to outlet... rather than in just one direction (which is what we've all agreed is better for corals, right?).

Yeah I was pretty much sold on it already after seeing Rebecca?s tank. Sweet set up. I just need to figure out what size pump to get for it. I will pump from the basement in a closed loop.

I will incorporate Becs water change system. Very sweet system by the way.

Bec mentions a Mag 18. I may go with a Mag 24 or equivalent.
