wierd looking snails shell fall off

I'm wondering if anyone has information on a wierd looking snail i found in my tank. I wasn't able to take a picture because of how fast they were. incredily fast might i say. When i tried to pull it off the glass its shell literally popped off it leaving just the snail like muscle. it also had 2 tentacles and looked ugly as hell lol. shell was black . anyone know if this is a nuisanace of the sorts or is it ok to leave?

I don't know how to spell it, but i'm sure someone does. I believe it is Stomella(sp) snail. They have a half shell and are really fast. I was told they are reef safe and are actually good. Mine just had babies and my sump is covered with them at night.

stomatella... thats how you spell it.

stomatellas are ok I believe, if that is what they are. I used to have some that came out at night.

Yea the only time i find them is at night. so that would make sense.

if it looked like that then it was deff a stomatella. i have a few in my tank as well. scared the crap outta me 1st time i saw em.

i witnessed a white cloud coming from a piece of live rock so I took the whole rock and put it in QT. later that night I flicked the lights on and there was one of those crawling around it. I'm pretty sure it was him trying to breed.
