woke up with a puddle...?

Sounds like your overflow is well-protected. :)

How do you know the return pump didn't stop running last night? Obviously something happened last night that you're not aware of, right?

True, but if i lose power the digital clocks in the house are all flashing the next morning, and this wasn't the case.

Plus even if i did lose power i don't see how it would create a problem.

It sounds like the only explanation is that you did spill more water than you thought yesterday and it migrated out from under the stand to the bucket.
This is my thought as well. Weird things like that can happen. Has to me anyway.

Sorry about the Clam. :(

Any more water or the floor or was it just the 1 time?

...Do you run a HOB fuge?....also I can fix the ceiling in the room down stairs, send me a PM if interested...

I have had snails crawl across the return from my sump and cause water to be sprayed out of the tank. Kind of like when you put your finger partially over the end of a hose. It creates pressure and can cause a stream of water to be shot out of the tank. If you have an open top, this could easily be the cause.

Also, what kind of sump do you have. It could have spung a slow leak in one of the seals.( or at a bulkhead if it is drilled) I have had sumps leak, and a slow leak overnight could amount to a small puddle. You did mention that there was water around the sump this morning. Completely dry that area around the sump and check for any new water.
