the vortech might be a good way to go especially for a smaller tank because the housing for the motor sits on the outside of the glass. that was not an option for me when i was in planing stages because of the closness to the wall. it turns out i most likely could have fit them but i am still happy with the korilia!
i decided i need more flow so i got 2 korilia 6 which are 2400 max. it will bring my total flow in the dispaly to about 8000gph.
i got some new stuff today. got a few little pieces from the ctars conference but i got alot more from Gardiner and NeverlosT, thanks guys i owe ya both. the rbta is not new but it is settled down in a good spot just about where i wanted it to be. score! just a couple of pics. i will take more when i have a better camera.
this little guy (the watchman goby) was given up for dead about a year ago. when i was moving the sump out of the way for the new tank i figured i would clean it. he wasn't found until there was about 1/2 inch of muckie water left in the tank. i could not believe he was still alive and well.
i almost forgot to talk about the new icecap led 4 foot moolight strip i got today at the ctars conference. i got it mounted which took about 3 mins. i cant wait for the lights to go out tonight.
FTS Moonlit please. Hey sorry i diddn't make it over on saturday but i started a little early sat afternoon and was nervous about making the trip, if you know what i mean
today i finally dealt with some light bleed through from the cabinet doors. at first i thought i was going to use weather stripping. the foam stuff with the sticky tape but that proved to be too thick. my wife suggested felt strips. i went to jo-ann fabrics. i may as well been on mars but there were actually alot of things there that i thought hmm i'll bet i could use that somewhere. i tacked the felt and it works perfectly. i actually took a picture
the 2nd big thing today was getting my ph probe in my calcium reactor. an npt tap and john guest fitting from ace hardware did the trick (don't go to lowes for a 3/8 npt tap).
and the final improvement for the day was running active carbon through a canister. i did not buy a clear one it was cheaper and i thought why do i need to see my carbon i change it monthly. it is on the return line to the main tank.
thanks matt. i am unhappy with the center light although it looks a bit extreme in the picture there still a pretty noticeable color difference in person. thing is the center light is a DE150 watt 14k bulb should be nice and blue (guiessmann fixture) and the out sides are mogul 250 watt 12k bulbs (magnetic sunlight supply ballast and lumenvue reflectors). i think i will put up a 3rd lumenvue and get another 250 for the center
thanks all....
i got larger powerheads for the far left and right of the tank. i did not think i was getting enough flow. this made me start playing with controller a little bit. i am finding there alot of options and one can set multiple user programs that will run in sequence. also i am selling my old tank tomorrow so i will most likely use that cash to get the 3rd 250 watt mogul for the center. i suppose the giessmann willl go over the 20l. which will bring me to the next stage of the project. building a frag tank/ fuge out of some spare glass i have that will better fit the area where the 20 long is now.matt i may want some advice from ya as i know you just did this! i will build the tank my self. it will most likely be rimless. it will be 24x24x12 and hold 30 gallons. i will make it out of 1/4 inch glass.
i got a new light in the middle. instead of buying an entire ballast and housing from my lfs or online i choose to go to my local electrical store and just bought a MH ballast and starter. this is because i was having trouble finding a single magnetic ballast but i also saved alot of money as well ( i want magnetic to match color with the outside). i wired it up in a spare box i had and used an old mogul and reflector i had ( i should have snapped a few pics). i will put a lumenvue reflector there soon. but it solved my color issues. also i went to john's today and grabbed 3 bar dartfish and an anthias...
last week
No prob Chris...... Just give me a call or send me a PM when you are ready. That is going to be exactly like my LPS tank only yours is going to be 2" taller. The 1/4 in glass should be fine with the dimentions. I have an unmeasurable amount of glass deflection with my LPS tank at 24"x24"x10" 1/4 glass.
thanks matt. i took a closer look at the glass i have on hand and decided it will not work so i will be buying my glass. that means another couple weeks to get this moving. i will use clear silicone most likely. i need to go back and see your thread to see what you did for the bottom.
