My fan stops working on my fixture.
It does turn on when the light first turns on then shuts off.
Shouldn't the fan stay running all the time while the light is on?
The fixture does build up heat.
Any ideas what the problem is?

It should stay on.Sounds like it needs replacing....or a healthy cleaning more than likely needs placing tho.

DO NOT BUY THE CURRENT REPLACEMENT! It is junk. Measure the fan and get the specs off it. I think it's a 60 or 80mm model at 12vdc. Replacement fan is availble at a computer retailer like Micro Center in Cambridge or online at newegg dot com. You want high cfm (cubic feet per minute), low decibal noise and ball bearing (not bushing). Check the specs. I'd use a Vantec http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811999602

First don't you mean vac not vdc.
The fan that was in my unit says 100-125vac.
I did find one at radio shack the same size just a bit thicker that still fits in the location of the old one.
Here are the spec.
VAC 105-125
Rotation Speed 3100 @ 60Hz
Rated current 130mA@rated voltage
Rated Power 10wmax@rated voltage
Airflow 32CFM
Noise a bit high at 36db

I did wire it in and seems to be doing well.
The only thing that worries me is the watts and amps.
My old unit does not tell me anything but 0.13A, 100-125VAC 50/60Hz

The ones in my Nova Extreme fixture were 12vdc with little plug in transformer. My Current HQI pendant had a 120v fan in it. That's why I said to check specs. Good luck.
