need to borrow a skimmer

Jill & Brian

Reef Hiatus
Hi everyone! My reef devil deluxe skimmer cracked where the standpipe meets the collection cup the other day after I cleaned the skimmer. The good part is that I spoke to Gary at ETSS and he is going to replace the cracked piece for free. The bad part is that I have to ship the skimmer to him, and it will take 1-2 weeks to get it there and back by the time all of the shipping is through. The skimmer is working fine for the short term, but I am getting a bit of salt creep and leakage through the crack

Does anyone have an extra skimmer that I can borrow while mine is out for repair? It needs to be an in sump skimmer... My tank is too close to the wall to hang one off the back, and my kids are too young to hang one on the front :D (let's climb the skimmer will seem like a fun game until there are covered with water and glass)

I am in woonsocket, RI, so something close would be preferable. I may be going to the meeting, so that could work too. The tank is 72 gal.

Thanks in advance,
Brian

Hey brian. Take a pic of the cracked pipe, maybe I can weld it on. I have the glues.

Hey Casino,
I talked to John on Saturday, and he offered to repair it too. I think I would rather get the pipe replaced since it is free, but thanks for the offer.

I have a used AquaC EV-120 that I won't need till the end of May at the earliest. Your welcome to borrow it. I've actually never used it myself. Here's the catch...I'm in Watertown, MA and I'm not going to the meeting and I'll be out of town for a week starting Sat. If you want to pick it up before then your welcome to use it for a few weeks.

well I will be getting a new skimmer saturday morning. I could let you borrow the one I have now on saturday. Its a ER clone. And im sure it will fit in your sump. Its only rated for tanks up two I think 60 Gls but you will only be using it for a few weeks.

for a week or two...I wouldn't worry about the skimming. Just feed sparingly and do a 10% water change...jmo

Thanks for the offer, i dont think I can get to watertown this week... Pregnant wife and 2 other kids prevent me from doing much of anything but coming straight home after work

Casino, I think I will take you up on that offer... Some skimming is better than none. I'll PM you later in the week about meeting up. Thanks.

I don't really want to go skimmerless, mainly because I already have some cyano and hair algae creeping into the tank from the overflow. If I go without the skimmer I am afraid they will start to get a good foothold. If I had a fuge, or another source of nutrient export, I would do it.
