I used my Magnavore to pick up stray nails in my backyard, but that's another story. They are definitely powerful magnets, but if you intend to scrape coraline, I's still go with a razor... carefully...
I guess, like anything, you get what you pay for, but in my opinion, the extra $30 is money well spent... when you consider the amount of time you'll be using it.
