Is there any fish that will eat palys? It does not have to be reef safe. I was thinking maybe a butterfly ?

Very large hippo tangs will munch paly's & zoo's...(but it is a hit or miss cause they only eat them if they are tasty...) usually once they start munching they will start to eat any eventually...it's just the initial "cherry popping" that has to take place to begin the rampage!!! HTH

All the fish listed above are known to munch on palys, but you have to remember just because members of these species are known to eat them doesn't necessarily mean the individual you purchase will. When I first started reefing with a 20 gallon I had huge hair algae problems and purchased a bunch of different animals, mainly emerald crabs, to try and control it but none worked. Eventually got in the habit of removing the crabs and selling them every so often after they weren't doing anything and buying new ones. I eventually got a crab that I could watch pick the hair one by one until it was all gone. Same with peppermint shrimp and aiptasia, I hadn't had any luck with them until I bought several a few months ago, now they keep my tank spotless. Just an FYI so if you do buy something suggested and it doesn't clear your tank right away. Just my 2 cents
