Thanks

Thanks Casey.

it runs about 40.00 but aquaaddicts is the cheapest locally... if you want to buy mine that I havent used you can...

There is a disease called 'black ich.' If you do a search on RC, you'll find out how people deal with it. I'm not all that familiar with the treatment, but I know that Brendan at Skiptons and probably Mike up at AA can give you more advice.

Thanks for all the help

Whoa, formalin baths, that sucks.

After the Formalin bath, I am going to put the fish and the bath water in a sealed glass jar and display it on a shelf.

Will cleaner shrimp help? Thanks

A simple fresh water dip possibly with some Methylene blue will take care of this. then followed by cleaner shrimp.

Quick cure has both Methylene blue and Formalin in it. Can I use Quick cure? Thanks

do you have a pic of the tang? first time my clowns use to like hosting in a galaxia and had black spots all over them...I thought it was black ick...turns out they were alot of sting marks from the galaxia. If the tang is eating well, you might want to watch it for a few days to see if it is spreading. I would try removing the fish if you are going to treat it with whatever treatment you choose. IMO...Formalin and MB is a very potent combo...I would try hypo first and feed well with garlic soaked food.

I had this problem about a year ago with a yellow tang, and in my ignorance, just let it be. The black spots never became an issue, and eventually most of them disappeared. The tang showed no adverse reaction to the 'black ich', and ate consistently the whole time. If I were you, I would make sure it was absolutely necessary before beginning treatments that may only serve to stress your fish and make it more susceptible to other problems.

If it looks like very tiny black whiskers then just a 5 minuet freshwater dip will do the trick. Adjust the water for temp and PH first. This works about 95% of the time with yellow tangs only.

Thanks for the info.

I do have a galaxia close to the tank wall and the tang like to swim between them. The tang eats well and the black spots are less today.

I will keep an eye on him.

He is still enjoy beating up my coral beauty (looks the same as the on in Dennis's avatar). My wife love the tang and I need to give the coral beauty a new home. It is 2 to 2.5 inch long and eats a lot (flakes, brine shrimp, blod worms). Also, for the tree month I have him, he never pick on any coral at all. I will trade him for coral.

Dong, did you ever treat this tang?
What was the outcome either way (with treament or without)?

I think one of my yellow wrasses has similar black spots.

No treatment and it is still happy live in my tank right now.

I bet your water quality is the reason it's not as bad as it could be.

I worked at a Pet Supply Depot ( bought out by PetCo ) once and we had a HORRIBLE black spot infestation.

Every yellow tang we got in for 2 months got it within a day or so of being in that system.

The water quality was pretty bad and that black spot seemed immune to copper so the poor tangs kept dying.
