Dremel Questions

I just got a Dremel 10.8V in order to cut a small piece of superman monti off a rock. (The piece is just too big for a nano). I have to cut through the rock as well as the coral. The dremel came with several cutting attachments, with descriptions for use - unfortunately none say 'through rock and coral'. When I was at the hw store I saw a diamond cutting attachment, but it looked too thick - now I am thinking this was the right one after looking at the ones included with the dremel. And at what speed? The settings go from 5,000 to 35,000 rpm.

Also I liked the new pistol grip model, but opted for the regular grip. Now I am not so sure. Do you think maybe I should exchange this before I use it?

the grip style would be a personal preference but that diamond bit was indeed the one you needed.
As far as speed,find what you are comfortable with.Keep you fingers clear and wear some glasses,there can be a lot of nasty stuff flying off the wheel.
You probably want to keep your mouth closed too,not a pleasant experience.
and make sure you wipe down the chuck and give it a light oiling after each use,the salt will seize the chuck in no time.
One last thing,common sense but make sure your hansds are dry

Thanks Liam. I never knew about the oiling, I think I will do that to my drill too! OK, I found a small rock to practice on, tomorrow I get the diamond and give it a test drive.

Heh, my diamond cutoff wheel bit is permanently on my dremel tool. I actually would always get annoyed that the bits would loosen while I was using them and then I'd have to stop all the time. Now that it's frozen in place...no problem. Of course, if you need to change bits you are out of luck.

It is really amazing how long one of the diamond cutoff wheels can last. I've been using the same one for probably 4 years, and I do a LOT of cutting with it.
