Felt filter sock cleaning in washer

So I uaually just rinse my filter sock by hand and it takes forever. Today I tried the washing maching and bleach method. It is like brand new. Now I ran the washer empty first, then with the sock and bleach only, then just the sock another time. Is it safe to use now? Anything I need or can do to make sure its safe to put back into use?

I think it wouldn't hurt to soak it in RO/DI a few times just for the "at ease" feeling and trying to get rid of every last bit of bleach. You could also try adding a chlorine neutralizer in one of those RO/DI soaks. That's just what I would do.

mine gets hot water and bleach, 2nd rinse option, and an air dry. Soak them in a gallon of RODI before I re-use. Never, ever, any soap.

I wait til I have 8 or 10 before I do a batch

I never bleach mine. I just wash it in hot water by itself. I have never had any problems.

first i wash in hot and bleach.. next i wash again in hot with amquel or seachem prime ... the spin cycle is dry enough for me

i used to flip the socks inside out.. thinking it will help but didn't really notice a difference if i did or not..

Same here.....I just wash and scrub mine by hand under the facet in the bath tub.

I just buy them in bulk

wow, you throw them out?

...since both of mine get changed 2x a week...at 10 bucks each, that's like 2k/year.....

the washer is a way less expensive option. I could buy the 10 I use in my rotation and replace the WASHER every year and still be 1,000 bux plus ahead ::

how do you know there aren't chemicals in them BEFORE you use them? ;)

my skimmer freaks if i don't wash them first when i first get them!

I'd be pretty wary, your washing machine does nothing but handle phosphate soaps. Even with an empty cycle before it, and bleach and hot water, there has to be a copious phosphate residue within the machine.

never even thought of that!

the RO I soak mine in after the wash comes up empty...not with a photometer, but the test says <.05

I don't think I would trust putting them in the washing machine....Hot water in a five gallon bucket or blast them under the garden hose jet....(but then again...I don't use them!!!);)
