Well speaking from experience, beginner corals are called "beginner corals" for a reason. You most likely will get addicted to the hobby. Luckily you bought a Jebo fixture your first time around, so your financial losses in the lighting department will be minimal. I'm assuming the fixture you have has 2 PC bulbs each at 96W. if you do, only soft corals would probably be able to be kept in that tank...maybe some less light demanding LPS at the upper 1/4 of the tank would be acceptable.
I would recommend looking into metal halide, T5 and VHO fixtures, in that order. They are all relatively expensive to purchase (compared to PC's and especially comapred to Oddessy fixtures, which have a poor reputation for quality and such). Metal halides tend to be the best looking(love that shimmering effect), but most expensive to run. T5's have costly startup figures, but they are flourescents and they are the cheapest to run (aside from normal flourescents and power comact flourescents). VHO are almost as good and less expensive as T5's, but you can fit more light into less space with T5 setups (so you get more bang for your buck, if you need the extra bang). Ultimately your decision should be based on the following factors:
1) What type of corals am i most interested in and may possibly keep in the tank I am purchasing the light fixture for?
2) Do I forsee upgrading tanks or lights in the next 2-3 years?
3) What is the footprint of the tank and more importantly the depth (meaning will I have enough watts per gallon to keep the corals I plan on purchasing?
4) How much can I spend to purchase the lighting equipment to get started?
5) Based on my potential coral husbandry plans in the next 2-5 years, what would be most cost effective to pay for in the long run? (monthly electricty & yearly bulb repalcement costs)
I hope this helps. Lighting is the last thing you want to bargain shop for. If you spend the extra money now, you won't have to waste money upgrading in the future (see #4). But if you go overboard, then you will pay extra in the future for lighting your corals may or may not especially need (see # 5).
Personally if I were you I'd go with either a Sunlight Supply Tek Fixture (36' T5 High Output 4x39watt hanging light fixture or equivelent retrofit in a hood) or a pair of 150w Double End metal halide fixtures (for a mixed reef), or pair of 250w DE halides (if you may eventually focus largely on SPS). A single DE halide fixture will light an area approximately 2'x2' fairly well, to a depth of about 18-24". With your 36"x12" footprint, 1 halide isn't quite enough, and 2 are a bit of overkill for even high light demanding corals. 1 might work over the tank if you have a majority of soft coral and only plan on keeping a few SPS corals in the center and upper third of the tank. A T5 fixture would give you more even lighting and be cheaper to run long term, but you wpouldn't get as nice of a shimmering effect on the water surface, and probably a little slower growth of your corals.
