I'm not sure which issue you were referring to.....giving the rock away...or posting the PM.
Neither. It's the fact that someone can have a sponsor name/phone/address in his/her signature and say he/she is not affiliated with that store.

LittleP has SEA CREATURES and info in his signature for every post. If he isnt 'affiliated' with this store then what is that?

Ah, I don't think there is a rule here on that, I think RC did. I promote our Dive shop - South Shore Divers - all over our websiste - but I am not affilliated with them in any manner. Nor do I get ANY discount :( from them.
If this were a Dive orientated Bulletin Board, I would have their web page in my sig. Instead I have our Dive clubs website - which has links to their site.
I think if I knew any of the LFS personally, I may have their info in my signature.
I think perhaps because John may not post here like other LFS that may be a reason. Not really needed IMO as we all know the LFS. But I know it helps me whenever I see an LFS person with info in their sig - location, hours, website.
Good info for new people and us oldies

I answered that in the private message you sent me asking the same question.
Why do you continue to bring it up?

To quell any silly questions:
The owner of the store said he'd like a forum on our boards but didn't have time to deal with it. He asked we accept LittleP as his representative. We did so.

Seriously, Armando, why are you harping on this issue?

Are you guys just trying to get the thread asking about moderators locking too many threads locked?

(Yay pumpkin!)

Although I got my answer (in private), Steve and others didn't. I don't post private messages for public viewing. That's all.

I'm kind of curious as to why a few people voted that the forum wasn't restricted enough....:) I don't think we have a lot of nasty posts going on?

I vote for Moe's old avatar:)

Mods are doing a great job, its not easy to keep us in line!

Just don't act up or Moe will sick his pet monkey on you!!!

Personally, I feel that decisions like this should be posted publically in the BRS Business forum to keep policy decisions transparent, even if they are not yet standardized policy.

I think I would harp on the issue as well if it had not been made public but I had been PM'ed an answer in private. For those not involved in the management of the board, such decisions contribute to perceptions of favoritism, politics, and cliques for those looking for a reason to gripe. :D

To be clear, this post is not meant to antagonize. I think that anyone should be able to ask something in public without being accused of harping. Since this is my first exposure to this topic, the response to Armando came across unusually critical to me and probably others.

Sure, anyone can ask a question.
But when the question strikes me as a veiled accusation, and it's asked and answered in a PM, then again in public, I'm going to wonder why somebody is lingering on the issue. I woulda kept my curiosity in private, but the question became public.

Thanks Kent, I agree with everything you said.

Hey Moe, lighten up, it's just a freaking fish club ;)

I think it may be a pain for the mods to make everything they do public. We elected the BOD to run things, I think things are going OK.

I think once Spring gets here we will all lighten up! :D

For me Spring starts in less then 12 days...but who's counting

Think happy thoughts everyone

There is a fine line between spirited conversation and being outright rude. Clearly we all have different opinions of where that line should be. Overall, I think the mods do a good job of distinguishing between the two and intervening when the line is crossed.

On the other hand, for us popcorn eaters on the sidelines, sometimes I regret not getting to a thread before it's "edited for content."

Thanks and keep up the good work.

Well, it is too bad that we are not getting a representative number of members to vote on this important topic. Moderation affects us all on a daile basis here at BRS Forums, so......VOTE NOW !!!!!

I'd have to disagree with your assertion that we aren't getting a "representative number of members to vote"... It now stands at 68:6:6. That is an awful lot of people considering the majority of people registered rarely visit the board. I think it is fairly safe to assume that the people who have voted also tend to be our more active online members, although that is certainly a point up for debate.

Agreed. The people who live with the moderation the most are likely the ones who've already voted - those most active on the boards.

I think when it ends on the 18th - for a total duration of 1 week - that it should be representative of the users who are nornally online. And it is pretty decisive right now on how the majority feel. There are only 166 paid members, and how many of them are active on this board?

There are only about 150 people with more then 100 posts

plus, a sample could still be representative even if there were only 20 votes. we have 83 votes so far, which is the most, by far, in any poll i've seen on this board. currently, a large proportion of the population has spoken and it seems like the mods are doing a pretty good job.
