candy cane not puffing up.

I always struggled to keep candy cane happy not sure why. They dont puff up like the pictures when i buy them. Calc 420, mag 1320, and alk 8. Tank is 3 months old every other coral i have is happy. I added 2 today, and while its early to tell the outcome, i can tell off the bet how its going to end up.

Any advice? Picture on the right is the seller the one i circled is the one i bought. Idk whats wrong. Its almost sand level. Not a lot of flow. Like i said too early to tell but every candy cane i got so far last tank and this tnak theu dont ever puff up like the pictures. My ph is 8.1

Everything seems fine as far as flow/placement. Try raising your Mag to over 1350. LPS love Mag.

I find candy canes to be easy yet very temperamental. If flow and water are good, they puff up, but small things cause the exact opposite.

They are my "canary in a coal mine" and are always the 1st to tell me if something is off in my tank.

They do best with higher nutrients and higher lighting.
