Discouraged with my recent equipment (impulse) purchases

So...... I'm running a 12g.

The tank looks fine the way it's set up but I'm getting a few undesirable varieties of algae. I figured adding phosban, skimmer and more flow would be a good start. So I ordered:

Nano Remor skimmer
Remora pre-skimmer box
Hydor FLO Rotating Deflector
Maxi-Jet Natural Wavemaker System w/3 maxi 400's

......for my 12g.

Well.....I'm sure all this stuff works great but I realize now that the tank is going to look ridiculous with all this equipment.

I'm ready to return or sell this stuff and pick up a Finnex tank....the life of a newbie.

I'd ditch the pre-skimmer box and use a simple $10 surface skimming attachment instead, esp if you're concerned about have too much equipment in the tank.

I tried one of those Hydor's and it only lasted a couple weeks. Also, three MJ's on a wavemaker in a 12g may be a bit much IMO.

That's what I'm running now. It runs to a HOB filter.

Ahhh... ok. Then you shouldn't need a preskimmer at all on the remora.

Have you considered making the HOB filter a refugium? I made one from a AC500 and put it on my 20 gallon nano... it worked great.

I've seen a thread on another site that gives the instructions. Do you still run a skimmer?

I ran both a skimmer and the fuge on the nano.
