Do I need to feed my fish?

Self explanatory question. Also, does size matter?

OK, don't pannic. I do feed them. But recently I battled a diatom outbreak, so I cut back... close to nothing. The only difference I noticed (all still had full looking bellies) was my Flame started picking at Montipora's.
Fish: 2 tangs, 2 clowns, 7 damsels, one Yellow wrasse, one Flame Angel; tank 150 w/ 200-250# LR.

FWIW some fish can get away with no food in a well established tank since natural food is abundant. FE I have a 58 with lots of leathers and and BTA's. I havent fed my maroon clown pair in that tank in a year or more and they keep growing and doing fine.

That said tangs need food, I have never kept a flame angel.

when I see a diatom outbreak I know it's time to service my RO/DI. That could be the root problem.
