Funny you ask that, I have the same question since a less-than-careful LFS employee busted one off of a crab I picked up today.

If you amputate your leg it doesn't grow back. Crabs are like us except they have exoskeletons.

From what I've read crabs can and will regenerate lost and damaged appendages over the course of several molts.

I watched a pistol shrimp regenerate a large snapper claw over the course of several months and several molts. I would imagine a crab would do it in a similar time frame.

I did some checking around on the internet and they will grow their claws back over time.

crabs are like shrimp... once they molt their claws will come back. Just like Mantis shrimps they lose their hammer\spear after they molt it forms back.

Me too. My pistol shrimp has lost his left claw several times and it grows back in a couple of months. I fix lobster tanks. I see lobsters all the time with missing claws in various stages of growing back.
