Identification

This guy randomly showed up in a sump about 5 months ago. Haven't added anything besides swapping things between tanks for a couple years besides a few fish.

I've looked around for quite awhile, maybe didn't search good enough, but I am stumped on what it is.

It's alive, the mouth does open, and close. I have the rock in the vicinity of the skimmer intake to help with the filter feeding.

Looks like a hitch hiker clam. Not sure on the species.

I did a google image search for "red mussel hitchhiker" and saw something similar on reef central. Unfortunately it was a on photo bucket but someone commented it may be a rock scallop.

Happy searching!

Yeah the shell is very different from what mussel shells tend to be, as well as clam, scallops.
I'm leaning on a type of cockle.

The red, and green pattern is what messes it all up for me on the searches.

Still alive, grown a little, still no idea of it's Identification though.

Yeah, so bizarre, the base being buried into the rock doesn't help. May send the pictures to someone in the academic side, and see what they say. I wonder If my "success" keeping this thing alive is a indication of me keeping some clams successfully lol.
