JBJ Canister Filter - Anyone used one?

Hi,

I was looking to get a new canister filter, and I really like the Eheim Pro II, but it is about $300!! I see that JBJ has a somewhat comparable filter (in terms of volume and flow rate), and its only about $140. Plus, it has a built in UV Filter.

Now, I know you get what you pay for, and Eheim is a great company, but has anyone used the JBJ filter? Is the Eheim really $160 better?

Thanks,

-Josh

I can't say that I've ever used the JBJ canister or even seen one in operation. I have been using and installing Eheim canisters for many years without problem. The Pro II line is outstanding and exceptionally easy to work on and maintain. There is a saying in aquaculture that if it hasn't been tried and true for 5 years than don't put it on your system. Not that I'm saying you shouldn't try new gear, but with a closed loop system that could potentially drain a tank full of water onto the floor I'd rather go with the safe bet :)

I will say that I have been underwhelmed by jbj gear in general.

Eheim gear has usually exceeded my expectations....but it IS expensive.
