metal halide installation question

I just purchased two new Phoenix metal halide 150 watt metal halide lamp an noticed a small extruded portion of glass on the housing. does this face the water or the reflector?

I know what your talking about Gene, but I cant remember myself. I do know however the lamp wont fire if its in the wrong way. I believe it faces the reflector but try it. You will know right away.

Sanjay said it doesn't make a difference. IME they'll usually only go in one way anyway.

It is also called nipple orientation. As Steve said, Sanjay produced some data a while back after speculation that one way or the other produced more light. He showed it didn't matter.

The directions in the Phoenix packaging say to orient the bulb with the extruded side up.
