Method for capturing a long nose hawkfish in a sump

Our new resident decided to take the ride down the overflow and was trapped in the sump (in the section with the skimmer). Since the sump is inside the tank stand, there is very little room to work.

However I devised a approach for capturing and returning our wayward friend which I am happy to report worked flawlessly with minimal stress to the fish or me.

Its natural behavior is to explore around and perch on things. I placed a tall clear glass in the sump and waited.

After about an hr it swam up the face of the glass, and sunk down inside it and stayed there.

I then took a plastic cover to a tupperware container, reached in, covered the glass, removed glass and fish from sump and returned the fish to its rightful home!
