Most coral farm dosing Nitrate?

I know some coral farms dosing nitrate to their tank as evidenced by green algea on their frag plug.

Is this a common practice? For us hobbyist, feeding fish probably enough but I'm just wondering.

I am not sure the green algae on frag plugs is an indicator of nitrate dosing.
I know some clam farms are dosing nitrate but normally coral farms do not share those kind of informations.
