protein skimmer

i have a 46 gallon tank with live rock . i have one trigger a wrasse and damsel. i have a eheim pro cannister filter and uv sterilizer. is getting a protein skimmer needed?

a skimmer is always desirable, and would provide more benefits than the uv sterilizer and canister filter, IMO

Are you planning on adding anything else down the road?

ok so i should use a protein skimmer instead of uv or both? yea i am probably 2 or 3 more fish. thanks glad to be here.

well a skimmer is always great to have and IMO a must. (It is easy to be temped to add more livestock later on also)

I think you will get varying opinions on the canister filter and UV. I would say the canister is fine if you clean it a LOT... I don't believe the UV does any harm, but whether is helps with ick has been under debate in older threads.....
