Reef cactus?

I have an odd looking thing growing under an acro colony. Purpleish stem with what look like brown Xenia polyps spread far apart. Real hard to get a picture but hopefully description might ring a bell for someone. Look like a skinny cactus..

I plan on cutting it out eventually as it's ugly as hell but wanted to know what I'm getting into first.

Just taking a blind guess here but sounds like a feather duster of some sort. Really need a pick to tell

I'll try to get a camera in the water. But it looks like a mutated Xenia. A purplish stem grew up with brown Xenia like polyps hanging off it.
