Some type of copepod? Absolutely tiny

Hey all,

I’ve noticed TONs of tiny copepods(?) gathering on the glass on my tank in recent weeks. Only have my phone camera so hard to get a clear picture of something so tiny but I got a video where you can see them moving.

Any ideas on why? I’d assume it’s a good sign? (But why on the glass and not staying in the rocks, sandbed, etc? I’m sure they are there too but seems as if the glass would be a far more dangerous area for them)

Or should I just accept that this is just a sign it’s time for a mandarin

Sounds like your pods have exploded in population. No answer to why there on the glass but this is common. It’s a good thing. I’m sure if you see them on glass there also in every crevice of your rocks. If you have fish that eat them like mandarins or wrasses you won’t see that kind of density. In my cultures of pods they can explode overnight in population.

Great, thanks for the confirmation! I just added a juvenile melanarus over the weekend so maybe I’ll start seeing fewer pods… now I’ll be sad to see them go!

Wrasses love them. Free food! I have two wrasses melanarus/yellow coris and two mandarins and they’re always hunting. I see pods on frag plugs when working in tank. Use a flashlight after lights are off at night on your rock work and look close. I’m sure you’ll see them running around. Good luck
