Sro 1000 int skimmer won't fit!

I managed to squeeze this guy under my 90 and into my 30 gallon sump. The water level was too high so I made a 6" egg crate and PVC stand. Now my collection cup won't fit, I need like 3"!! What should I do?

My friend really recommended this skimmer so id like to keep it if possible.

Your skimmer is 20". My XP1000-SSS is 20.5" I have 24" height room in my stand. The filter sock, reactor, skimmer area of my sump is 9" deep. I built a 2" skimmer stand out of egg crate and PVC. My skimmer is in 7" of water and the top of the cup is 3/8" from the roof. It runs fine. Reef Octopus changed their mind about how much water it should be in. When I got my skimmer three years ago it was 6-9" now it's 5-7". If you lower the skimmer it should work fine. The most important thing is having a constant water level. It will run fin in 7" of water.
