I am starting to draw up plans to make a new hood for my 75g. What kind of wood have you all used? Should I hunt down marine grade lumber? Or use pressure treated? Or should I avoid using PT wood since it leaches chemicals into the tank? Thanks...

I used pine then loaded it with paint. Not sure if its the right way, but it has been fine for about a year now.

I would not use marine grade or pressure treated.

I know there are a couple guys on here that are carpenters. That would say to use furniture grade plywood. About $32 a sheet I believe.

Good Luck!

^^ What Chris said^^ , apply a couple coats of primer. you can even dilute the first coat to get a deep soak of the primer. top coat with another two coats of paint and caulk the seams prior to any of the above.

You know who taught me that?
