Big Problem.

Stimpy

Bite Who?? ME ??
while waiting for RODI and algae to stabilize, I decided to take some advice I got here (no blame)
I bought some Kent phosphate sponge and bag, RINSED the hell out of it.
Woke up and the tanks were all cloudy, very cloudy.
I pulled the bag right out. Skimming all morn, no change.
livestock loooks ok, BTA closed up

Whats going on? Anyone Help

Did the algae you have in the tank turn clear or dissolve? A rapid change in parameters can cause it to go sexual and put a lot of cloudy stuff in the water. Calupera is especially prone to doing this.

Neither, Algae still brown and green patching, chaeto looks ok too.
I did put some charcol in too, would that do it if in at same time as sponge?

No interaction I am aware of between carbon and phosphate sponges. Is there any smell to the water, like something died?

No Smell either, cant find my porcupine puffer but he hides most of the day anyway....

It's stadard practice to rinse phosphate sponges?
I dunno, so I'm asking. I've never used one.

directions said to..

just looked at bag that had sponge in it, it was dripping dark green with fine particles in it... is this normal, directions said leave 8-24 hrs, I had it in about 10..

bump

Added 3 of my old whisper hang on filters, added carbon.
No water ready, filter carts unavail. tap only but hope water clears first.
Still looking for any experiences with Kent Phosphate sponge doing this to a tank.....

I've used that stuff before when I had FOWLR and it never did what you're discribing. I rinsed it really well and put it in the sump and remove it after 24hrs.

What type of algae are we talking about?
