Can we have a Chemi-pure group buy? Anyone know a good source for cheap Chemi-pure? I am talking about the 10 oz. size.

Thanks

None of those links really say anything about it other than "you should use this". What's it intended to filter out? Is it safe for invertebrates?

I'd love some more info.

Here is one paragraph. I have no history with this prouduct, but writing like this makes me want to run :

Whereas medical research has termed the positive ion the "suicide" or "unhappy" ion, they have found the negative ion properly termed the "happy" ion. The natural balance between both negative and positive ions are present in air as well as water. In the medical research mentioned, patients were actually subjected to major surgery - using no anesthetic except a flood of almost all negatively charged ions through a regular anesthetic mask. They were completely awake, yet felt no pain whatsoever! Conversely, volunteers were isolated in a room which had an excess of positive ion circulated though the air. These subjects reported extreme melancholia, feelings of depression, and even a desire to suicide. When the positive was switched to negative ions, a feeling of elation was experienced, worry and doubt was cast aside, and everyone in the room felt wide awake and happy as though the room was flooded with fresh air. And that is exactly what happened. Have you ever walked outside after a thunder and rainstorm and noticed the exhilarating feeling - the marvelous odor of clean fresh air? The air is heavy with the negatively charge ions produced by the lighting. These ionized oxygen molecules are also present in water under the right conditions. And, no matter how hard we try to undo the balance Mother Nature creates, if left alone long enough, a body of water outdoors, under the influence of sun and air, will eventually grow enough algaes and natural micro-organisms to bring back into perfect balance the equilibrium which nature insists upon - if left alone by man. Now, this equilibrium is represented by the balance between the negative and positively charged oxygen molecules or, is brought into balance by these "magic" ions.

Yes, their web site is full of $#it but the actual product is very useful.

Use Chemi-pure in additional to regular water change and it works very well.

All the regular dosing of Ca, Mg etc should be carry out as usual.

It is very high grade carbon plus ion exchange rasins.

I don't like raisins. ;)

Dong, what's the goal of using this stuff? If it's partially an ion exchange resin, then I'd be very wary, because there are LOTS of ions in our tanks. Most of them very important! I don't understand the idea of using Ion exchange in a saltwater environment.

In October I bought 3 10oz. size from Big Al's for $3.99 each plus shipping. That compares to $5.59 at most on line sites and $10.00 at the LFS. I've been using it for 2 years and like the results.

I have to agree with Nate, They are worst in oatmeal cookies. Just ruins a great cookie.

hahaha...

Isn't RODI use resin? I don't have hair alge after I use the Chemi-pure.

Yes, RODI uses DI resin, but that's before you add all those important ions to your water, like Ca++, Mg++, and a bucket-load of Na++ and Cl-!!

I'm not sure of any problems this could cause, since the info on this product's mechanism is so shady, but I'm certainly wary.

Those web-descriptions are about as hard to buy as creationism.

Whoever wrote their website either on drug or a con artist, but the result from these chemi-pure is not bad. I have no hair alge and everything looks healthy.

There are both cation and anion DI resins. I believe (don't quote me since I dont work for an RO/DI mfg) that most of the RO/DI units we use contain mixed bed resin cartridges. This essentially strips everything from the tap water. It could be, again don't quote me since I dont work for Boyd's, that they are using one or the other of the resins to "trap" unwanted crap within the tank.

Keep in mind that just because you took it out of your tap water doesnt mean its not in your tank. Most salt mixes are of certain "guaranteed" purity when it comes to the unwanted metals and such but they're not free of those things. Not to mention that you are adding other impurities every time you feed the tank, put your hands in the tank, etc.

I use ChemiPure and think it helps. Can't prove it but to my eye it helps.

And for the record, I will continue to pay $10 per container for my chemi-pure at my LFS. Because I think that helps my tank too :D

I have never used Chemi-pure but I have known some very reputable reefers to use it on occasion when their battle with a nuisence (?) algae gets the better of them. Until now, I didn't know anyway used in on a consistent basis.
