Turned my confusa a bit to the right in hopes of a better angle for viewing and whatnot... i like it from this view a bit more, so here are a few new pics from today...

jus as far as a reference, the colony is about 6" from the left to right, outermost points...

My first chalice addition!

well, i dont have it jus yet, but ill be adding a nice 2 eye frag of miami hurricane sometime this week should it handle the fragging it had tonite... it was fragged very good and clean, but we are gonna give it a few more days or so, in my friend's system... but it has some nice color and i am pretty happy to finally get my shot at keeping a nice lps... if it goes well, i will add another frag or two after that sometime... and go from there... if after trying a couple, they dont take to my tank like i would like to see them, i will jus fore'go collecting them... but im hopeful they will do well and get some good lighting and water quality... i plan on placing them down between the taller columns in the back row, where they wont get blasted with flow, and perhaps they will settle in nicely down there... if all works out and they take to my system well, when i grow out my sps, i will be able to keep both chalices and zoas down in between the higher located sps... making a good use of the space down there...

wish me luck lol, maybe i can start keeping a different kind of goodie ;)

my first chalice...

so i grabbed my first chalice today... the miami hurricane, 2 eye frag i got from fellow BRS member, Icycoral (eric)... its in great shape and he did a great job fragging it and it looks great imo... i really hope it does good... it'll get plenty of flow and good water quality, but thats all i can be certain about at this point... i am gonna figure out a good place for it soon however, hopefully it does well til then... but i really like it already :)

Unfortunate discovery of a frag added not too long ago...

so i was kind of bummed, discouraged and let down recently... first off, i do my best to ensure my tank does not get any pest introduced, or any nuissance algae... i dip all new intro's properly and i do not allow any nuissance algae into my system, well any that is viewable to the naked eye anyhow... i do run a low nutrient system and have had no algae issues of my own whatsoever... now, you have to understand, i am one of those people, that will literally jus toss corals in the garbage if i see something i dont like on a coral, or some algae i dont like growing out of a peice of rubble that a zoa/paly may be attached to... some may gawk at this, but i have worked too hard to have any of this crap in my system, and refuse to allow it to happen... obviously there is a very small trace of phosphates in my system, cuz i do get algae on the glass and on the tiles, and there is a need to keep snails for a clean up crew...

i recently obtained a frag of original xmen paly frag not too long ago... these palys were attached to a peice of rubble rock from the previous owners tank so i had no choice but to include this peice of rubble in my system (dipped properly as well)... after about a month and a half or so of adding them, and after i removed all of the hermits i had in my display, and emerald crabs as well, which was about 3 to 4 weeks ago, i noticed some DAMN bubble algae growing out of this single peice rubble, and ONLY here, which the xmen paly's were on... i have never noticed one speck of this stuff in my system for a year, or any other system i ever had for that matter... the hermits/crabs must have kept it cleaned down until i removed them and it had a chance to pop up into sight for once... it may seem like a small deal to some, but myself, i will have no part of any of this crap in my system and go to great lengths to ensure my system stays free of pest and nuissance algae... again, i have literally tossed these types of peices in the trash if i have found anything i dont like about them, to me, its not even close to be worth taking a chance... and that is where these went, as reluctant as i was cuz they are not so common and until i got them, i believe only one, maybe two other people in the club have them before that... there is no way i, myself would continue to keep them in my system and pass them along (the main colony/frag) to someone else knowing they were inbedded with this algae, the rubble they were mounted on obviously, not the palys themselves... i was fortunate enough to have them grow well for me in that time i had them... I was able to frag off clean and free of any substance they were originally grown on, some of the polyps that grew out on my tile, away from the infected rubble... i was able to get the following amount of polyps to the following peeps, as well as keep a seperate 1 polyp frag for myself, which i try to always have an extra frag of at least 1 polyp of all my real favorite zoa/palys as a back for such situations...

2 polyps - lhe82 (leo)
1 polyp - pvh (peter)
2 polyps - icycoral (eric)

NOTE* i did not sell one, or ANY of these polyps/frags... they were strictly used for trade, and trade only... as i believe in sharing the good stuff with my friends and fellow club members, not holding them for my own bragging and boasting rights...

and of course the one i mentioned i have saved for myself... but unfortunately, and reluctantly, i tossed out a few healthy polyps i was keeping to grow out into a colony that were the original frag i received... my intention was to spread the wealth with this beauties and get them out there to as many club members as i could, as they are rare, but i wanted to share them with my fellow peeps, as mentioned above... but unfortunately that will be on hold for quite some time until my one polyp makes some real headway and becomes a small colony at the very least...

so give me some time myself to grow mine out... and perhaps those i traded my other frags too will do the right thing as well and get them around the club like i was trying to do... well, until i realized my foreign rubble was infected with some damn bubble algae :( and remember, this peice of rubble which was contaminated with this garbage, is long gone :)

all well, at least i can continue to have peace of mind, and KNOW my system is very clean, and very healthy, and i still have one healthy polyp to start again with :)

New frags and my first maricultured peices... and a second chalice frag...

Went to visit a buddy today on my way through Boston today, and picked up some new stuff in trade for some nice rock i had... 4 maricultured acro's, a small, but nice clip of ATL strawberry fields, and a 2 eye frag of Tyree emerald mummy eye... so am pretty happy, and feel it was worth a nice sunday cruise to hang with some like minded peeps :)

maricultered peices...

acropora loripes
acropora hoksemai
acropora suharsonoi (i am 99% sure this is the type of acro, will find out more soon)
and another acropora i need to ask the name of again, or have identified

and again, a small, but nice clip ATL strawberry fields (acropora sarmentosa) and a nice 2 eyes of Tyree emerald mummy eye...

i'll take a pic in a few ;)

the 5 new acros i got today... the four to the left are the maricultured ones... they are gonna need some time, but in a couple months, they should be well on their way... dont mind the Armor of Gods frags lol, anyone want any? they got to go, lol

I think the far left one is acropora horrida if I remember correctly

had some free time, so i thought i would document a couple things with pics :)

and a couple pics of the turn around my ORA red planet has made... the first pic is from today, the second is from about 3 weeks ago, about a week after nearly a complete bleaching... i added this peice around mid april... it has grown a little bit, but seems pretty hell bent on putting down a huge base before it does anthing else lol, damn stubborn corals lol...

IMAG0830-1.jpg

IMAG0658-1.jpg

and this is when i first got the red planet frag about 10 weeks ago... you can see its freshly glued... so its base has grown out about 2" since...

sorry, horrible blue pic, but you can get the idea...

and one more comparison shot of my sunset monti... this peice was also obtained in mid april or so... you can see todays pic, followed by a pic from early to mid may... from this pic from may, you can probably tell how under colored it was the 3 or 4 weeks previously it was added... again, the 2 pics are about 6 weeks apart...

a complete and wonderful turn around imo :D
