Nick's Reef

Never tried it with a full spectrum fixture. I might take your challenge on that if I go Radion Pro.
However, I bought this 72" Giesmann Spectra years and years ago before the Elos 160XL thinking that I was going to get a 6' tank that I'm dying to use. I'll be running the legendary Radium metal halide. If I don't like it, I will swap out the internal components and mount the LED in the fixture. I just got to experience the Radium.

Anyway, I got bored of the tank and how everything is growing and coloring so I decided to spice it up a little. Got angels in the tank and now my SPS are bald(No polyps extension) due to nipping. Now it's fun to decide if they're worth the bald SPS for them and how I should master mind a fish catching technique. I love this hobby.

Just look at all the fish. How exciting!
Yes, that's a pair of masked swallow tail angel. And a pintail fairy wrasse at the end.

Unbelievable tank.
Please refuse no more when comes time for tank of the quarter voting again.

Lol. I still can't accept because this tank will be no more. You will see why in a couple minutes.

One year update. This tank has been such a joy for me over the past year. The least troublesome to keep all the corals and fish happy. Maybe I know what I'm doing or maybe I just went simple and more patience about it. I'm going to go light on the picture update this time as this might be the last time this tank will be a pics update.

Last August when I transfer the content of the Elos 70 into it and started off with some SPS frags.

Now the reason for the thread title change.
Miracle has informed me that my new 360gallons tank is ready to shipped and they sent some pictures. I just have to tell them when.
The new tank has a dimension of 72"x48"x24". Peninsula style as I would have to have access to all side of the tank due to the 48" width. I know this is not as fancy as the Elos. It has Euro brace at the top and braced at the bottom. But at this kind of size, I don't care about the clean look much. I just want a solid tank without worrying about water on the floor. The tank stand cabinet will hide the bracing at the bottom anyway. Planning on a canopy at the top but will see how it goes.

The external overflow box is 38" wide! lots of surface water(where most of the oil and crap) will be drained into the sump to skim. It has been awhile that I've set something like this on my own. But it was how I started this hobby. Since going to AIO system like Elos, I haven't been able to be creative on my system set up.
With this much water, the tank is going to be in the basement with its own fish room. I'm not expected this project to go as smoothly and quickly as the 160XL. Moving the livestock alone will be an all day ordeal. But I plan on running two tanks for as long as I need until I'm comfortable with the livestock transfer into the new tank.

Pics of tank from Miracle. I will list the equipment once the tank is in the house. Because of the differences of size and volume, most of the equipment I'm running now will have to be upgraded also.

Very nice tank Nick !! The corals looks great in the tank you have. I imaging that in the new one they will look also fantastic.

The new tank will go in the same spot ? If Yes, how do you plan to do the transfer ?

Cheers
Daniel

Is that a scratch? :)

I'm interested to see how you like the tank and the build. I was more than pleased with mine and the starphire glas held up awesome.

Man, I feel like no one ever read the post!
All the answers you're looking for is in the post above. It's not like I was writing a book. I tried to short everything and you still don't read it. :D

I remember reading it some time ago. This morning I open it with the new title and went directly to the last page.

Ahhhh the aging process. How I didn't remember those details...... :-) ... LOL

Can you point me what page / post are the answers to my questions ? .......

JAJAJA. ...... no need for that.

Cheers ..... Nice new tank !!!

Congrats, nice layout on the tank

Wow, I think it still looks very clean. I don't think the euro brace at the top is that big a deal compared to the rimless. I'm excited to see the progress.

BTW: the old tank looks great too. I was feeling fairly happy with my "1 year progress" until I saw your pics :)

Just got off the phone with John and Advanced Acrylic and worked out a design for the sump. I've worked with John before on the current 160XL sump and ATO reservoir. His response is quick and the build quality is top notch.
40"x20"x18". Black 1/2" acrylic everywhere except the front side(clear). Total volume of 62gallons. With 8" of operating waterline, the water volume adding to the total system would be ~28gallons. Has 4 dosing holder and 4 probes holder. I'm not sure how useful the heaters holder will be but they are there.
I will have a separate 20gallon as a refugium plumbed to the system.

Here's a sketch.

What do you have in mind as far as running skimmer and return pump. Are they all going to be external and not inside the sump?
Also. Do you plan to have a new tank build thread or just coninue with this one?
