PVC Cement Question

Does anyone know how long you should wait after gluing up some PVC (closed loop) and then running tank water through it? A day? a week? etc. Many thanks.

Just my 2 cents but I would say 1 hour.
PVC not only mechanically bonds but also chemically bonds as well.
It bonds pretty fast...sometimes faster than you want.lol

I have used the fittings a few hours after glueing with no ill effects, but I would wait 24 hours if you can to make sure it is fully cured. Also a good idea but obviously not necessary to rinse everything off with fresh water, helps to get out any PVC shavings that may be left inside the tubing. Better than it ending up in the tank.

I would say it depends on your needs or how fast you need to put the pipes in service. 2-3 hours and then rinse with fresh before should be fine, but 24 hours would be absolutely cured if you have the time to spare........that pvc cement works very fast and it is like welding the two pieces together once it sets up.......good luck Andy!

I finished the PVC piece yesterday and wanted to make sure I didn't crash the tank by rushing the installation. Thanks for the input and the peace of mind.

I would wait at least an hour, overnight is plenty. Our pipe techs will run water in the pipe after 20m but no pressure over 20# for the first hour

Chemically speaking, I can't answer- I'm not sure how fast any VOCs in the cement will become harmless. Intergrity speaking- less than an hour. I've built hundreds of pool filter systems and we pressurize those within the hour with never a leak.....
