29 rimless biocube build

This weeks tank adventure has been a green algae bloom, not gha, probably a bacterial bloom related to getting my DYI algae turf scrubber going. Its mostly over now, just another ride it out and don't overreact kind of thing.

The algae scrubber is broken in now and starting to get green hair algae growth. It took most of 2 weeks to get the screen broken in with a good slime. I wish i had roughed it up better but it works. I bought enough screens to last me 10 years lol so i can always break in another one.
All in all its starting to work great!

My nitrates stay between 0 and 5 max. The more i feed, the more the gha grows on the screen. Nitrates hardly move.
Phosphate 0 although i know i add them with food etc.
Im really pleased with it so far. Amazingly quiet!!!!

I also added a shark nose goby today! Really small but super cool.
I didn't get a pic before he found a home in a rock. He sticks his head out sometimes it pretty funny.

A few crappy phone pics of my zoos. They're growing alot. Its not the optimal time on my lighting schedule for colors to pop but hey, who doesn't like pics of zoos.
7 frags, I'm still deciding where to place them.

I have absolutely no idea of the names of any of these. Haven't gone to the zoa id page..
Feel free to offer your opinions on the type!!

Yesterday i also finally cut out about 3/4" of the back overflow between chambers 1 and 2. My hope was to lower the display water column height without changing the return pump volume. It worked!
Now my display height is around 1-1/4" from the top instead of the 3/4" it was.
I also ramped up the rp-m powerhead to #6 which is 30% capacity so its at about 800 gph. Having it 1/3 of the way down on the back wall it aerates the surface really well. I don't mind some bubbles ar the top because i know its got great C02 exchange and the water it O2 rich!

I also noticed yesterday an aptasia growing out of the sand near a a zoo frag...UGGGG!
My GF then noticed a small one stuck on the back wall behind a base rock. Perfectly impossible to get at its mouth to treat..
!#%*@^^@&!*!*&&@^#!!! AIPTASIA!!!!
and so it begins....

I seen some aiptasia on a frag plug the other day too...I cant tolerate seeing aiptasia in my tank. luckily it wasn't on a rock and easy to deal with.

Aiptasia just sucks! Not being able to mess with it because it will spew out hundred of "babies" makes it a total PITA!
the one in my sand bed it getting nuked today, the one behind my base rock is gonna be tough.
Glad you noticed yours early and its manageable. They can be tough to spot under zoas/palys on the plug sometimes.
I may have to add a peppermint shrimp and hope he's hungry.
Best of luck!!

Idk about everyone else, but I’ve always had great luck with peppermint shrimp, they’ll eat all the aptasia within a week but they always seem to disappear after about a week whenever I’ve added one. I suspect that the six line is taking them out is all.

I never had luck with p.shrimps...I had aiptasia in my former 93g threw some shrimp in and they were just hanging out next to the the aiptasia all day while the aiptasia grew bigger and bigger lol

You have a watermelon zoa and some rasta zoas, didnt look closely at the others.

I had that same issue on my 47 column seahorse tank 12 years ago. Glad you brought it up, they're definitely hit or miss.
I'll pass on them unless I'm out of options.
Thanks!

My gf got some pics of the new addition.
I really love this fish!
It is fearless, and very interactive. As soon as he sees me, "he" comes out. If i put my face close to the glass he comes right up to the glass and will swim around showing off spinning in circles etc.
Im sure he's trying to train us to give food for tricks lol.
Its seriously acts like a puppy!!

The neon gobies are fantastic little dudes. Mine have all sat on my fingers while I fed too. Great personalities.

Seriously the most positive, playful, personality I've seen with a fish!
In my limited experience.

Did some testing today.
Right now i only have API tests, as i progress to adding LPS, SPS i will get better test equipment.

Temp. 77.5
Salinity 34 ppm
PH 8.3
Nitrate 0
Phosphate 0
Alk 9.5ish
Calk 370-380
No mag test yet
My dyi algae scrubber is taking off! Im sure thats the 0 nitrate and 0 phos reason. I feed reasonably.

I just started dosing seachem fusion 1 and 2.
Based on the directions i added 3 ml of each.
I really didn't want to raise my alk but 3 ml. Should only raise it 0.5 or less. (I have about 21 gl. Of actual volume). I know the 1&2 work together so figured i was safe.

My plan is to get the parameters in range as a baseline, then figure out my consumption. I have noticed coraline spreading on some rocks, so thats likely where the calk is going.

Open to input from successful reefers!
Thanks!

About a 1 1/2 weeks ago i added a red and blue led grow bulb to replace the white 5700k i was using on the dyi ATS in my 2nd chamber. The white one worked well, got the growth going but figured why not try a new one.
I harvested this past sunday..see pics.
This is about 2 weeks of growth. I probably could have shaved 4-5 days off and harvested sooner, but no ill effects.
The tank is doing great so far! I'm really happy with the ATS mod, i will have better tests for everything soon and can begin to dial in the light schedule on the scrubber to allow a little nitrate and super low phosphate. At the moment my crappy api kit reads 0 on both.
Also, that ats seems to be a pod breeding ground. My tank is still swarming with pods since they bloomed almost a month ago.
Fat fish lol
