Algae scrubbers

Does anyone have any experiences with these? I've read a couple little things about them, and have heard some good things. Was wondering if anyOne on here has built one, and if so, how effective is it? I also heard it could replace the skimmer, which would be great, since I need a new one...any truth to this?

Don't waist your time

I have built several scrubber that produced massive amounts of algie. I didn't notice much change in my nitrates and phosphates. Also found it was a lot of work to clean the screens every week. A good refugium and skimmer is a better idea.

there are a few people on this forum that have been running one for a while, i had thought about making one a little while ago but from the feedback on here I found that it was not very beneficial for the work involved
