Fern Type Algae?

I think so Steve. My Hippo never touched it. Currently Tang free and this stuff is choking out several corals. I keep pulling it out but it's a loseing battle this way.
Looking at pictures of it this appears to be a differnt species. If I email you a picture could you ID it? Haven't figured out how to post pics here yet.

Yep just checked some pictures, it is byropsis, read that mexican turbos will eat it?? Has anyone verified that?

Bryopsis was just another one of my many algae outbreaks. It covered my tank at one point. Now, non existent. Never noticed anything eating it so not sure what actually got rid of it. Bryopsis is tougher to get rid of than other hair algaes because it doesn't require as much nutrients and mostly depends on lighting.

Also it can reproduce like crazy! Any filament can grow to a whole new colony of this stuff. If you can isolate it, then try to cover it in order to kill it off. It will spread fast if you try to prune it.

Oh and here is a picture from my tank which may help you identify it as bryopsis...

Lettuce nudibranchs are about the only thing that will eat it. Ive been controling mine by eliminating phosphates.

snails and emerald crabs and hand picking the long stuff. It seems to get less palatable when it gets long. Add a fuge and get the phosphates down and you'll be clear pretty soon.

Also look at what you are putting into the tank food wise. Maybe cut down or use different food.

There is no really quick fix, but since it is a strong sign of too many nutrients, you will probably be much happier fixing the root cause. Be aware that the tank may not show high nutrients in tests because the bryopsis is using it to grow all nice and leafy green.
