Help: Algae Bloom

I could use some help from an experiesnced reefer. I just upgraded my lighting system from CF's to T5's. I now have this uncontollable algae bloom. This newbe can really use some help!!!!!!!*)

How long are your lights on? How old are the bulbs.

Thanks for responding! Lights are on for 10 hrs. Bulb are 3 mos old.

Cut down on the photoperiod. Maybe 7-8 hours a day

+1 drop your light cycle to 7-8 hours. Are you sure of the age of the bulbs? What are your water parameters like?

Thanks guys. The guy I bought the bulbs from said they were 3 mos old? Could be older, just not sure.

I would get new bulbs and maybe a two little fish phosphate reactor and some gfo (granular ferric oxide)

What kind of algae is it? There are true algaes and bacterias, all appear to be a type of algae. Photo would help.

New setups will go through some algae stages. Are you running a skimmer? How much live rock, etc.? Very difficult to assess without knowing about your setup and the nature of the problem.
