How to stop lettuce nudi death by MaxiJet

My lettuce nudi finalyl got sucked into the strainer on one of my maxijets... Anyone have any ideas of how to prevent this in the future without cutting down on the flow of the maxis? I really like the lettuce nudis and need to figure out a solution to this problem.

Sponge filter over intakes, which reportedly would need to be rinsed weekly to prevent generation of nitrates.

A sponge from aquaclear mini powerfilter can be used.

I'll have to pick up more sponge material tomorrow, I'm fresh out of it now. The maxi is also grabbing branches of my green tree coral, but I have so much.. hehe

Is there a sponge that will fit perfectly over the maxijet strainer?
