I'm sorry to all involved in this group buy. First of all I had nothing to do with the set up of it. It was being run by Mauro. There was much confusion surrounding the group buy however because the original group buy thread had just been bumped, and I was receiving PM's about this new group buy which I had nothing to do with. In an effort to end the confusion I split the thread and then I goofed and accidentily deleted the new sections of the thread for the group buy.

There's no way to recover from that I'm afraid (correction I was able to recover the important information below). So we will have to start again. Anyhow, Mauro was running this. He was planning (I believe) in doing something very similar to what I did previously in this thread:

http://www.bostonreefers.org/forums/showthread.php?t=35300

Again sorry for the confusion and for the deletion of the posts.

Oh, and in the FWIW category Mauro, I suggest that when you break this material up you may want to weight the entire container and then weight out the amounts you are giving out to folks. I think I was off on the density of this stuff, and I got burned a bit dollarwise on this (it cost me more to purchase the stuff I distributed to members than I collected in $).

Does this stuff need to be in a reactor or can it be put in a mesh bag of some kind and then put in the way of running water?

You can use it in a mesh bag, but it will form a single cemented together clump over time. You may find it quite difficult to get it out of the mesh bag.

OK guys, I just called Severn Trent, pricing on 2cu ft is now $250.
The good news is, I may be able to save a ton on shipping (Lou Spinuso is going to be within 10 miles of their suply depot in Tampa at the end of the month) :)

For those that want this stuff sooner, I am in contact (attempting to ) with this place, http://www.twopartsolution.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=41_39 which sells it for about what Greg charged the last time (evidently the price from severn drops to $199/cuft if you buy 38 cubic feet! ) I am trying to get a better price from them when I speak w/them.

I just got a reply from Twopart - They'll do this intro deal for any club interested in their products, the pricing is essentially wholesale but only a 1 time offer:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Reef Club,

We are offering an introductory special exclusively for reef clubs. For one
week your club can purchase items on our site at wholesale prices. This is
your opportunity to take a look at our wide range of bulk reef supplies and
get them at WHOLESALE PRICES. There are no minimum purchases and no need to
organize a group buy. Simply inform your club of the offer.

After your club decides on the week they want to start the promotion
(Monday-Sunday) all your members need to do is register for a regular
account on our website and send us an email mentioning this promotion and
the name of their club. We will update their account to a wholesale account
that Monday and give them access to all products with wholesale pricing.
Once the promotion is over we will return their accounts to regular retail
status.

All the hassle of organizing a group buy, collecting payment, and
distributing the purchase is gone. Each of your members who sign up will
have their own wholesale account. They will be able to purchase what they
want with no minimum quantity, pay for it and have it shipped directly to
their own home or business.

Take a look at these incredible deals. Remember this is a one time
promotion. Once its over its over.

I also got final pricing from Sevrn Trent - We are looking at $500 for approximately 60lbs of media (2 cu ft) + shipping.

Does anyone know what shipping from Tampa FL (their distribution ctr) would run for this?

Oh my... i could use just about one of everything :) carbon, Di, it's like Xmas in July, I'm ready when ever.

I am thinking that the two part solution offer is too good to pass up, that price list is good from the time we activate it, for 30 days.

Any idea what the shipping charges will be from twopart? Based on the size of our likely order, it might be much cheaper to get a pallet shipped truck freight. Of course, someone then has to distribute it....

I just spoke with them again, the GB will start Monday, everything on that pricelist will be honored. Just make an account on their site, and ask for GB wholesale status, you will have a month to order.
--------------
All I need is a commitment that ten members will be part of the group buy
and a date that you would like for your clubs promotion to start(Monday
through Sunday). I am not going to police it so if only 8 or 9 people end up
ordering that is fine.

After you have decided on a starting date I need your members to create an
account on our site and then email me with a request for wholesale status .
Please have them include their names, email addresses and the name of your
club. I will activate the account and on the following Sunday I will
deactivate the wholesale status.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

-------------------------------------------------------

As far as shipping goes, I dont know if they are up to simplify that, I will ask them next time I am in contact.
