BIG problem with heat...

STiTCH87

Saltwater OCD Victim
Just realized it's hot in my bedroom right now for some reason, checked the thermometer on my tank and the water is 86 degrees!

Just this afternoon it was at 77 like it always usually is. I suspected possibly a heater failure, but even my freshwater tanks were at 86.

The door to my bedroom was closed, but even now that it's open it isn't much cooler, and keeping a window open is the only thing that will cool it down sufficiently. So that poses a huge issue. If the temperature in my room can get that hot, in March, then there's no doubt in my mind that in the summer the tank water could get to 86+ degrees as well.

Which means only a few things, either I buy an expensive chiller, or I sell the entire tank before it has even finished its cycling. I have nowhere else in my house to put it. Not to mention no where cooler.

Another issue is I am running it the berlin method so there's no sump. So IDK if it's even possible to attach a chiller to a 29g that doesn't have a sump.

Someone please help me, because I am getting extremely stressed out and saltwater has been an expensive and troublesome nightmare since day 1 and I am literally about ready to sell the whole setup for $400.

first are you running open top? because it was 77F in melrose today as well and my bedroom door was shut but I had both windows open.
I run a 150watt MH light as well on my solana and my temp didn't go up and was a steady 78.9F all day long! accept for right now since it gotten cooler my temp is at 78.1-3F
I'm not sure how much breeze you get in your room but my room I didn't really get much breeze... was your house heat shut on,auto, off? also where is the tank placement in your room?

The top of the tank has a glass lid. Power compact sits on top of the glass. Tried running open and having the PC further from the tank once and somehow it resulted in the temperature increasing. House heat is set on auto at 65. Bedroom window was shut all day with the shade down and during the afternoon it never exceeded 78 on the tank. Saltwater tank is placed right against the only window in my room. Even my freshwater tanks on the opposite end of my room are at 86 degrees. Gotta stay up al night now til I get those down so my FW fish don't die.

not sure since u just said when you took the glass lid off it became hotter?
what kind of temp. do you have digital or those sticker ones that you stick on the outside of your tank?

Thanks for your help on AIM. Thinking I should be all set.

I window AC unit would be very helpful in the summer time keep your tanks cool and they would also keep you cool at the same time.

I was thinking the same thing. Definitely going to go that route. Even if oly for my own temperature comfort.
