plywood question

Other than the veneer surface, is there a difference in pine vs hardwood plywood? I need to make a non-structural skin for a steel stand and am trying to figure out the best/most cost effective wood to use. It will be painted black and I want as little wood grain to be visible as possible so as long as the exterior surface is smooth I don't really care much what it looks like. Will one type hold up better?

Thanks,

Matt

use a few coats of primer, block sand smooth and paint. I would use a hardwood if you want a nice finish.

Paint grade Birch ply is really nice for a painted project if cost is not your chief concern.

MDO has no wood grain in it at all. I build built in cabinets with . I love it . As for salt creep and possible water I would use a real good sealer on it though.
