I started cycling a new tank, and have been surprised that the ammonia has still yet to spike.
About 2 weeks ago I started up the tank with crushed coral and live sand and added live rock. On Monday, I added a market shrimp and tested the water today expecting a major ammonia spike. The shrimp is deteriorating, but ammonia seemed pretty low. I retested the ammonia again and got the same result.
I'm using the API test. This is a 2 gallon tank.
Is it possible that the tank has already progressed that much that the ammonia hasn't spiked with a decomposing shrimp in the tank?
