OK,
This is unofficial because it's not a BRS-endorsed event, but it's official because this is where we'll hash everything out.
There's been a lot of interest in a BRS ski weekend, and since I have the place for everyone to stay for the ridiculously expensive cost of $20/night (thereby saving you money to throw into your tank) and also have access to discounted lift tickets (yet more money to throw into your tank) - I guess it makes sense for me to organize it
So here's the deal:
I'm a member of a ski club that has a lodge up in North Conway. There are a number of other lodges in the area as well, and we all belong to a parent organization that links the clubs together for both social events (drinking!) and amateur racing. The accommodations are ski dorm style, usually 2-4 people to a room in bunk beds. Depending on how many people are up (we have 20+ rooms), you might have your own room.
You don't actually need to be a skier. Actually I think the majority of the people in my ski club snowboard. Maybe we should call it a snowsports club
We have private parties a various clubs that are a lot of fun, and cost $10/head. If this begins to remind you of college frat days, you are getting the picture - it's frat days for grown-ups There are two parties every Saturday, an afternoon party from 4-7, and a night party from 9-1. The different clubs take turns hosting them. Warning: dancing and loose men and women involved (I don't promise attractive)!
One thing worthy of note: you don't need to be a skier/rider to take part in that activity. There are lots of other fun things to do in the Mt. Washington Valley.
So we need to figure out a weekend to do this. You also have to opportunity to take part in one of our races if the weekend(s) we choose is on a race weekend. The downside to the race weekends is the two that are available are at Black and Cranmore - not exactly epic, challenging hills - but they can be a lot of fun when there is snow, and there is a TON of it up there now.
Let me start by saying that if anyone wants to come up for New Years, we have a lot of fun that weekend, and actually have some very cheap packages available. PM me with an e-mail address if interested.
I'll list out some suggested weekends, as well as some of the party themes for those weekends:
1/18-1/21 (MLK Weekend) - Foil party hosted by my club (there's a story)
1/25-1/27 - I think party theme is First Aid, Race at Black Mtn
2/1-2/3 - Jello Bowl hosted by my club
2/8-2/10 - Chocolate night party - Race at Cranmore
2/15-2/18 (Pres Day Weekend) - Dating Game (fun!), Chilifest
2/22-2/24 Casino afternoon party
2/29-3/2 - Toga party hosted by my club, Championship race Shawnee Peak
3/7-3/9 - Two parties
3/14-3/16 - St Pattys Day party
3/27-3/30 - Ice Bar - the mother of all parties - usually 500-1000 people in a big yard with a bar made of ice
The long weekends have a party on Sunday as well as the usual Saturday parties.
So, let's pick a weekend (or two or three) - let me know where you want to ski, and I'll give you a cost on lift tickets. If we go on a race weekend, you can get discounted lift tickets at the race mountain that day, whether you race or not.
Who know, you might actually have enough fun that you'll want to join the club!
Eric
